Diamonds Light Stencil Colors by truemarmalade Diamonds Light Stencil Colors by truemarmalade
I know this isn't really traditional art, but if I put it in photography or something then I'd just feel wrong.

This is something like 5 shots, parts of which are all combined into one.

Here's a set on flickr with all the photos I used to make this, and a process of how I do this light stencil thing; so quit asking!

This is definitely the coolest thing I've ever made, in my egotistical opinion.

EDIT DD:
Thanks guys :]

I'm building a bigger rig, for bigger light stencils.

Street Art? Traditional? Photography? Yes to all. No digital means have been used on this image... what we're seeing is the recording of a clever technique that is wholly traditional in its essence, and true to the Street Art spirit. A trick to the eye that creates a momentary illusion carefully crafted and captured. Diamonds Light Stencil Colors by ~truemarmalade. ( Suggested by Mauricioluis and Featured by stigmatattoo )

Absolutely ingenious.
At first I thought you made it with light painting, but this is a method I haven't seen before.
Excellent job!

It's the same theory as light painting, just with a quick burst of light instead of streams

So wait...from looking at those stages on Flickr I see that there's a big fat black thing behind the 'diamonds'. How did they stay out of the final picture?

:icontruemarmalade:

Because that's not lit up when I do the pictures. My room is completely dark in the shots, so the only light is coming out the diamond shape and not shining on the big fat black thing

I think I know how you did this.

We did a similar thing in photo class with a really dark room and a long exposure. Then you shine the flashlight AT the camera.

Yup exactly! I just put things in front of the light to make shapes

I did a similar experiment for photo class where my room was very dark and I positioned my face right in front of the camera lens, and I held the flashlight below my chin pointed upward in ghost story/campfire fashion and clicked it on and off very fast, backed up, clicked it on and off very fast again, backed up, etc until I had about 6 images of my face getting smaller and smaller surrounded by the black of the dark room. It worked better when my camera's F-Stop was on a high number, like 22, than on a low number, like 1.7, because on 22, less light was allowed in and the details of the face were clearer and crisper. On a low F-Stop like 1.7, the light muddies and blurs up the image.

oh shit is that a diamond stencil on the ground there? at first i was like, "ah whatever, this person just put diamonds in random spots around their room" but that's damn genius just because of the stencil down there thats awesome.

woot!
I didn't really know how accurate I was being. I didn't truly understand it myself.
I'm really impressed with how it ended up turning out, since the trace for the flash didn't bend over the objects like one would have expected any projected object to have done.

I built a box around it to only let the light come out the diamond
