Hand Tree Light Stencil by truemarmalade Hand Tree Light Stencil by truemarmalade
No photoshop other than brightening up my hand a bit.

Done with my camera on a 10 second exposure. After hitting the shutter, I:
1. fired the light stencil floating in the air
2. set the stencil down and picked up a small slave flash
3. floated my hand where I thought the tree was
4. aimed the flash at my ceiling and shot it, lighting up my hand in the shot

I don't really like how there isn't a background full of stuff, like my other light stencils were. I'll probably end up using this one again in a different situation.

Hi truemarmalade,
Your stencils are great! Are you ever thinking about selling them as wall decal?
Itīs an interesting new wall art design and we are just starting a project where Artists around the world can offer there vector graphics. Itīs named TapeRay.
And the best for you as an artist is, that you can decide how much you want to have per artwork square meters.
You can ask me, if you have problems to convert your artworks to vector graphics.
It’s really easy and I can do that for you.
Please contact me (marcel@taperay.com) or have just a look at [link]

All the best, cheers
Marcel

judging by how controlling light is extremely important to this style of art, I think the instances where it would work well outside are few and far between.

lol, i'm building a box myself. (stole that idea probaply from the same grp)

i wanted to light it with high powered leds but a flash is a really good idea. (although i dont have one)

what kind of material do u use for the stencil? i tried thick paper and some colored foil, but thats not perfect yet.

I cut it from posterboard and then painted the posterboard black on both sides to make it more opaque, and then put a piece of green construction paper where the stencil is to tint the light

This is a nice stencil, but the trouble with alot of light stencils is that they could easily have been done in photoshop, I think they need background and some interaction with that enviroment for them to really work.

Have you tried putting a constant light in the box to make it into a brush and then firing the flash through to punctuate the strokes?

I don't think the tree would work as well with painting it brush like, maybe the diamonds are something I could experiment that with
